Title Sunset Heron
Location Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada
Description This photo was taken in April of 2022. If you look closely you will see while the heron is standing in open water, just below the neck of the heron is the ice line. The lake was still frozen and the ice though melting had only at that time opened up along the shore. The heron were forced in close to the shoreline while the waited for the ice to recede. On this evening I had observed a heron in the reeds. I positioned myself about a hundred feet away in the direction it had been working. I laid in the cold sand that still had patches of snow and waited for the heron to reach an opening in the reeds that would allow for a clean background. It took the heron about 20 minutes to get to me and stayed in the opening for about 6 minutes before moving onto the reed bed on the other side of the opening.
