Newfoundland's Atlantic coastline is a paradise for bird enthusiasts—and now’s your chance to experience it firsthand.

Led by two internationally recognized, award-winning wildlife photographers, this exclusive tour takes you to hidden gems along the coastline, where the magic of nature unfolds at every turn. Together, we’ll explore remote cliffs and rocky shores, seeking out perfect moments to photograph these stunning seabirds in flight and at rest.

But that’s not all—foxes also make their dens along these shores, and with a bit of luck, we might encounter these elusive creatures during our adventure. What to expect

Newfoundland's breathtaking coastlines come alive with the energy of summer, as countless seabirds gather at their nesting sites. Imagine capturing these incredible scenes as waves crash beneath the cliffs, and the sky fills with birds in flight. This tour will take you to stunning locations like St. Brides, Bonavista, and St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve—the most accessible seabird colony in North America.

With short, easy walks between 1-2 kilometers, we’ll reach cliffside viewpoints that offer intimate looks at bustling bird colonies and sweeping ocean vistas. Along the way, we’ll have the chance to explore picturesque lighthouses and, if we’re lucky, encounter foxes for even more captivating photography opportunities.

In the field you will receive personalized guidance from your award-winning tour leaders to help you capture once in a lifetime images.During our breaks, you’ll have the option to review your photos with Donna or Alicia who's accredited photography designations ensure that you receive invaluable insight to enhance your work. Or, you can enjoy some quiet time strolling through charming seaside towns, experiencing the local culture and visiting quaint shops.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Pick up in St. John’s at 1:00 pm. Your tour leaders will greet you and transport you to St. Brides. We will check into our accommodations and have dinner before spending the remainder of the day searching for birds.

Day 2 – At 5:30 am, we will head out to photograph birds in the early morning light. After a few hours, we will return for breakfast, recharge our batteries, and have a short break before stopping by a local shop to pick up lunch, which we will enjoy in the field later. We will then head to the cliffs at St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve to photograph birds returning in the late afternoon. You have the option of returning to the field for sunset photography or relaxing at the inn for the evening.

Day 3 – Departing at 5:30 am, we will once again seek out bird colonies. We will return to the inn by 9:00 am for breakfast and check out. As we drive to Bonavista, we will take our time, stopping along the way for photography opportunities. Upon arrival, we will have a late lunch and check into our accommodations. After some downtime, we will meet for supper and venture out in the evening to photograph puffin colonies.

Days 4 & 5 – Each morning at 5:30 am, we will explore local spots, breaking during the day for lunch and supper, with downtime in the afternoon when the light may be harsh. We will head out again for sunset, and with some luck, we might even spot a fox or two, as they tend to be active in the evenings.

Day 6 – We will start with a quick early morning session photographing puffins before heading back to St. John’s an additional whale watching tour can be added please contact us for more information.

What will the weather be like?

  • It will be cool and breezy usually between 4 - 10C this time of year. it may also be raining so bring raingear with you. 
  • An updated forecast will be provided closer to the actual date of the tour. 

What should you bring?

  • Warm clothes that can be layered and hiking boots.
  • Plenty of batteries.
  • You can use a variety of lens sizes a 100-500mm zoom would be ideal or a 400 or 600mm lens. 

Payment Schedule

  • A $1500 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking
  • $3000 due February 1, 2025
  • Remainder of balance due April 15, 2025

Cancellation and Refund Policies

  • A $1500 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking
  • All cancellations must be received by email.
  • Amount refunded is dependent on the date of cancellation: 
    • Prior to February 15 - full refund of the amount paid at the time of cancellation less the non-refundable deposit
    • February 16 - April 30 - 50% of the balance that was due February 1 plus full amount of any remaining balance that was paid less the non-refundable deposit
    • After April 30 - non refundable

Cancellation Insurance

For your protection, we strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance which includes cancellation

Once a booking is made and the deposit paiid significant expenses and long-term commitments are incurred on your behalf. For this reason, we cannot refund your deposti if you are later forced to cancel your reservation, hence trip insurance is important.

For all tours, each participant will be required to sign a Release of Liability and an Assumption of Risk Waiver before the start of the tour. You may be asked to sign a photo release form (optional). 

 

Your Tour Leaders 


Donna Feledichuk 
With an undergraduate degree in sciences and a doctorate in Adult Education, Donna knows biology and knows how to teach! An award-winning instructor and an award-winning photographer she has been a finalist in the North American Nature Photography Association Showcase,
Nature Photographer of the Year, Travel Photographer of the Year, Share the View, WildArt POTY, shortlisted for the Siena Awards, and the Grand Prize winner of Nature Canada in 2023. Her works have been featured in national and international publications including BBC Wildlife Magazine, National Geographic Espanol and Canadian Geographic and she is a featured columnist for PhotoWild Magazine and she
 was named one of the top 16 wildlife photographers in Canada in 2023 by Influencer Digest + one of the top 60 Canadian Photography YouTubers by FeedSpot in 2024.

Donna is accreditated by the Professional Photographers of Canada in the areas of wildlife, birds/ornithology, animals, and animal portraits. Widely known for her award-winning great gray owl photos, she is a member of the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective. Donna is committed to protecting wildlife in Canada and their habitat and just completed work on the collective's Biodiversity loss campaign “Vanishing”.  She routinely mentor aspiring wildlife photographers and helps them uncover their own unique personal style to shate the story of the wildlife they experience from their own unique perspective.


Alicia Barrett
Alicia Barrett is an award-winning and published professional photographer based in Clarenville, Newfoundland. Specializing in newborn, maternity, family, and wildlife photography, Alicia brings a refined artistic vision to each session. She holds multiple accreditations from the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) as well as international accreditation through APNPI, including in children and infant portraits, as well as wildlife and ornithology. Her work has gained recognition in prestigious image salons and competitions, and she continues to capture the natural beauty of Newfoundland's landscapes and wildlife. Alicia’s passion for photography extends beyond the studio, with her wildlife photography showcased on social media @woodswildswatersnl.
