It was early morning when two male lions returned to the rocky outcrops of the Serengeti, tired from a night of hunting and seeking a cool place to rest before the heat of the day.
Together, the two males formed a powerful coalition. They controlled two separate prides, and by working together they could defend their territory, keep challengers at bay and maintain their position over the prides within it.
They approached without urgency. There was no need to hurry. Their strength came not only from their individual power, but from knowing they did not stand alone.
