I had been leading my fox tours through challenging weather. The snow and rain created interesting photographs, but they kept me from working with the soft light of the setting sun, one of my favourite times to photograph these beautiful animals.
That evening, the weather finally cleared. There was no snow and no rain, only the warmth of the setting sun, which had melted away the snow from earlier in the day.
The mother had been sitting watch outside the den, as foxes often do once their kits are old enough. As she prepared to leave for the evening hunt, something caught her attention. She paused in the last of the soft light, exactly where the light found her.

Printed on: Each print is produced on either Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 or Moab Entrada Rag Bright 300. Both are premium cotton fine-art papers selected for their soft surface, subtle texture and exceptional reproduction of detail. Their matte coatings produce rich tonal depth, deep blacks and beautifully controlled contrast, making them especially well suited to the monochrome photographs in this collection.
