2026 Wildlife by Kayak Evening Tour
2026 Wildlife by Kayak Evening Tour

Ready to Take the Plunge — Without Dunking Your Gear?
Glide. Capture. Master the Moment. Wildlife waits for no one.
Get ready to create images and memories that few photographers ever experience.
Step off the beaten path and onto the still waters for an unforgettable evening of wildlife photography — from the unique vantage point of a kayak.
Photograph majestic loons, red-necked grebes, pelicans, ducks, and, if fortune smiles, even a beaver — all while learning how to confidently (and safely!) photograph from the water.
This is a private tour, perfect for individuals or small duos ready to grow their skills, relax into nature, and experience the magic of wildlife from a brand-new perspective.
Discover the unparalleled birdlife of Lac La Biche, a recognized bird sanctuary since 1920 and a vital hub along the central migratory pathway. Nestled in the heart of the Boreal Forest, this area is a haven for over 200 bird species throughout the year.
Nervous About Your Camera Gear?
You're not alone!
I provide waterproof dry bags specially designed to protect your camera equipment, so you can focus on capturing the moment without the fear of a gear disaster.
Before we even get on the water, I’ll walk you through:
-
How to pack and secure your gear safely
-
How to position yourself in the kayak for maximum stability
-
Best practices for camera handling while paddling
-
Tips on using a dry bag effectively to protect your gear
Plus, I’ll share insider knowledge on what types of kayaks are best suited for photography, including why certain designs give you more stability, easier camera access, and better shooting angles. (Spoiler: Not all kayaks are created equal when it comes to balancing a camera and a paddle!)
You’ll leave not just with incredible photos, but with new confidence in your ability to handle photography from a kayak anytime, anywhere.
(And if you want even more peace of mind, you can book a practice session too.)
Why Photograph from a Kayak?
- Get low, intimate angles that land photographers can only dream about
- Approach wildlife quietly and respectfully with minimal disturbance
- Create unique images that stand out from the crowd
- Immerse yourself in the peaceful rhythm of nature, no crowds, no noise, just you, the paddle, and your camera
Ethics and Expertise:
Throughout the tour, I emphasize ethical wildlife photography practices, prioritizing your safety and the well-being of the birds and mammals. I’ll teach you to observe and photograph in a way that minimizes stress on the wildlife.
As an internationally acclaimed, award-winning wildlife photographer, I’ll guide you every step of the way, helping you understand bird behavior, master action shots, and compose captivating images all from a kayak.

Can beginners join?
If you have basic kayaking or canoeing experience (even if a little rusty), you’re good to go! First-timers are required to book a practice session beforehand.
Can I bring my own kayak or life jacket?
Your own life jacket, yes, but kayak probably not. This is because a certain type of kayak is required to safely photograph on water. If you have a kayak and want to discuss whether it is suitable, I encourage you to send me an email. Please note that if you choose to provide your own gear, it does not change the cost of the workshop.
Premium kayaks, paddles, dry bags, and life jackets are provided, so you can travel light.
Is it really safe for my camera gear?
Absolutely. You'll receive a dry bag for your gear and coaching on how to safely and steadily photograph from the kayak.
