Description This shot was very special. I had been observing great horned owlets standing in the entrance of the cavity in the tree in which they were nesting. After about an hour of watching them one of the parents flew quickly into the cavity with a meal before I could even get a shot off. However I was rewarded when the parent came out and the two owlets were diving in. The owlets their tailfeathers showing in the bottom right of this photo were trying to push their way in as the parent was making their way out. This image was published in Canadian Geographic's 2024 Best Wildlife Photography Special Edition.
