Description This photo was taken in September of 2022. I had been in Jasper to photograph the elk rut. In the early morning I had hiked up to a mountain meadow hoping to find a nice clearing that would give unobstructed views of the elk. As I was watching the bull in the meadow with a small group of cows I noticed a movement to my right. Glancing over I saw a coyote moving in the long grass not really fully visible as the grass was taller than him in most spots. I waited as the coyote worked its way over the field nose to the ground hunting in a zig zag fashion. On occasion he would pause look around and then put his nose back to the ground. I snapped a photo of him looking my way during one of those quick breaks. Eventually he worked his way across the field and moved into the forest.
